Why The Morrigan exists
Being a woman in business is hard. Everyone says it. Few people do anything practical about it. The Morrigan is one small practical thing: a verified directory of female-owned and female-led businesses in Ireland, free for the women who run them and free for the people looking for them. No one pays to appear higher. Every listing meets one of four categories of female involvement, and we tell you exactly which. That makes the directory useful to anyone hiring — including companies with supplier-diversity commitments.
The Morrigan was the Irish goddess of sovereignty — the Great Queen who decided who rightfully held power. We took the name because sovereignty over your own work is what the women on this list have earned, and what the directory exists to make visible.
Who built this
The Morrigan is built and maintained by a small team of volunteers. The directory doesn't rest on their judgement — every listing meets a published verification standard that anyone can check, and no business pays to appear. As the directory grows, named female contributors will co-own the editorial voice as we expand into interviews, profiles, podcasts, etc.
The Morrigan also maintains a separate, smaller list called Allies — male-led businesses whose work materially advances gender equity in Irish enterprise. They are recognised on their own terms, in their own section, and never mixed in with the main directory. This separation is deliberate.
